Hoi Polloi – The Many

How the Translators Have Changed the Bible - - AGAIN!

 Lorraine Day, M.D

As we know, theologians and Bible translators are notorious for changing the Bible.   The translators accomplish this by actually changing the words.  But the theologians and pastors bring this about by perverting the meaning.

The words Hoi Polloi in the Greek mean “the many.”  The Greek word Polloi (or Polus or Pollos - #4183 in Strong’s Concordance) means “many.”  And the Greek word Hoi means “the”  (#3588). So obviously, when put together, Hoi Polloi means “the many.”

But amazingly – and unfortunately, in the instances were the words Hoi Polloi are used – meaning “the many” – the Bible translators have dropped the word “the” and changed it to “many” – only.

But how does this make a difference in what God is trying to teach us in His Word?

Let’s take a look at Romans 5:15-21:

15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many

16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. (KJV)

“Many” - - - or “the Many” – meaning ALL!

It is simple to find the truth about God’s character.  When Jesus died on the cross, did He save “many”?  Or did He save “the many” – meaning ALL?

Below is the Interlinear Bible showing the Literal Translation on the left, and the King James Translation on the right.  Notice that on the left – the Literal Translation - the words are “the many” but on the right, in the King James Version, “the” is dropped and only the word “many” is found.

How “slick” of the translators.  A better description of them would be “utterly and despicably deceitful.”  They have trivialized Jesus’ death on the cross essentially stating that Jesus failed at what He came to earth to do – save the world.  And they have slandered the character of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who loves everyone He has created – and will save them ALL – eventually!

Jesus came to “take away the sin of the WORLD” but the translators don’t believe He can do that, so they have dropped the word “the” in order to say that Jesus can only save “some” (many – rather then “the man” – meaning ALL) of those He has created.

Why does the Bible use the term “the many” rather than just saying “all”?

If we re-read Romans 5:15-21, we will see that in verse 19, Paul is talking about “one” – Adam – who sinned, and by doing so, passed sin on to all the rest of humanity – “the many” (in addition to Adam) who also sinned.  So it is “One” – meaning Adam, and then everyone else – “the many.”

But Jesus came to die for the sin of the (whole) world.  Paul shows this in the next sentence.  “By the obedience of One (Christ), the many (ALL) shall be made righteous.”

There it is! Universal Restoration!

Adam – one man – sinned, and passed sin on to the rest of humanity – “the many” – ALL.

Christ – one perfect Man - died on the cross for the sins of the whole world, bringing righteousness to the same “ALL” – “the many.”

Verse 20 confirms this:

“But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.”

It is impossible to out-sin grace!  That is Universal Restoration!

Why Christians Don’t Like Universal Restoration

Christians seem to hate Universal Restoration.  They want to be special.  If God’s going to save everyone – then they are not “special.”  Furthermore, if God is going to save everybody eventually, then there’s no reason for the existence of the organized church, a “club” that sees its goal as being the salvation for the lost – but only “if you make the right choice” – and become a “dues-paying member to keep the organization (business) going.

Pastors, Theologians and Bible Scholars try every way possible to pervert this Good News

First they say, “context determines extent.”

Now here is where the perversion of the Bible’s meaning begins on this subject.  They state, “context determines extent.”  That’s a fancy way of saying, “ I will interpret this passage according to my own preconceived theological beliefs, rather than the way God inspired the authors to write the Bible.”

Then they say, though this gift is freely offered to all it “requires reception.”

No, the Bible does not say that this gift is “freely offered” and “requires reception.”  The Bible says, “the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”

The passage in Romans 5:15-21 does not say that the gift “must be received.”  The pastors and theologians are perverting the Scripture by adding words and thoughts that are not there.

Verse 18 again reiterates the fact that this gift is for all men – ALL mankind

Rom 5:18  “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. (KJV)

Next, the pastors and theologians use various texts to “prove” that this gift “requires reception” so only those who “receive the gift” receive life.

Indeed, it is true that  one must “receive the gift” – but pastors and theologians do not believe that everyone eventually WILL “receive the gift.”

Are they saying that God is not great enough to win ALL His children back to Him?

Do they believe that God created a creature, Satan, who can outsmart God by seducing away from God by deception, the children God created, yet God is not smart enough to know how to win them back to Himself?

Do they believe that Jesus FAILED in His mission to “take away the sin of the world?”

Do they believe that Jesus only “offered” to “take away” SOME of the sin from SOME of the people in the world?

After all, when John, the Baptist introduced Jesus on the banks of the Jordan, He said,

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who TAKES AWAY the sin of the (whole) world.”  John 1:29

Do they not believe the Bible text that says,

“And I, if I be lifted up (on the cross) WILL DRAW ALL to Me.” John 12:32

Does they not believe the following passages?

The Father hath given ALL into the hands of the Son.”  John 3:35

ALL that the Father giveth Me SHALL COME to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.

“For I came down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me.

And this is the Father’s will which hath sent Me, that of ALL which He has given Me (which is ALL) I should lose NOTHING. . .”  John 6:37-39

Do these pastors and theologians not understand these two verses?  God has given ALL into the hands of Jesus and the same ALL WILL Come to Him, and Jesus shall lost NOTHING!

God knows exactly how to get us where He wants us, so we finally realize we need Jesus Christ to run our life.  Unfortunately, the “church” teaches that there is NO “second chance” even though God will resurrect ALL the unsaved at the Judgment – which the Bible defines as “turning us back to Right-doing (righteousness) in Psalm 94:14 and Isaiah 26:9.   These pastors and theologians are perfectly fine with a “Killer God” torching billions of His children in Hellfire – FOREVER!

The bottom line is that Satan has put his character on the face of God, and virtually ALL Christians have bought the LIE!

The pastors and theologians reiterate that in the bible only the believer has eternal life:

John 3:15-18

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (KJV)

John 3:36  He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (KJV)

I Jn 5:11-13

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (KJV)

Their conclusion is that the Unbeliever does not have this life.

And they are correct – to a degree.  The unbeliever does not have this life.  But what this author has no ability to understand is that eventually everyone will believe – everyone will become a believer!

The problem with all these theologians, pastors and Bible translators is that they work backwards.  They start with what they believe – what they have been taught to believe about the Word of God – then they change the Bible to agree with what they believe.

They believe in hellfire, and that God is not omniscient (even though they would never admit that) so, therefore, He is unable to save ALL those He has created.

They believe that God created a creature – Satan – that is smarter than God, a creature who knows how to win God’s children away from Him, but God is clueless as to how to win them back.

They believe that Jesus Christ cannot do what He came to earth to accomplish – “to take away the sin of the (whole) world.” John 1:29)

Why Do Christians HATE the Idea that

Ultimately, God is Going to Save EVERYONE?

Why are virtually ALL Christians so anxious to change the Bible – to change the Word of God in order to hold on to the false doctrine of Hellfire, in order to hold on to the concept of a God who is willing an anxious to torture His children FOREVER, in order to hang on to the idea that WE human beings are ultimately responsible for our OWN salvation – because WE have to “make the right choice.”

Indeed, we do have to “make the right choice” but we can’t do that unless God puts it in our heart to “make the right choice.”  And if He puts it in our heart, then He will put it in everyone’s heart.  And the Bible says that everyone eventually will come to Jesus, as John 3:35 and John 6:37-30 confirms (see above).

Why do Christians dethrone God and make themselves their own god?

Why do Christians change the Bible to make it agree with their own preconceived theological beliefs – particularly when their beliefs are dead wrong?

Here is the answer!

Christians all look forward to going to heaven.  In most instances, that is why they are Christians.  They don’t want to go to hell.  But Christianity is really for here and now.  In order to be ready for heaven, a person must first become One with God here on this earth.  He or she must develop the character of Christ, here on this earth.  God does not wave a magic wand and make a person “perfect” after he dies.  The perfection of one’s character occurs on this earth, by going through trouble.  That’s why Jesus said, “In this world you WILL have tribulation.”  (John 16:33)

Spiritual vision depends on our character.  It is the “pure in heart” who “see” God – it is the “pure in heart” who understand the true character of God (Matthew 5:8).

“My vision of God is dependent upon the condition of my character

My character determines whether or not truth can even be revealed to me.

Before I can say, “I saw the Lord,” there must be something in my character that conforms to the likeness of God

Until I am truly Born Again and really begin to see the kingdom of God, I only see from the perspective of my own biases.” Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, July 13.

Unfortunately, we see God through our OWN character, and NOT through His.  If I want MY enemies to be destroyed, then I will worship a God who destroys HIS enemies.

I will never be able to see the truly loving character of God until the salvation of everyone in the world is as important to me as my own salvation.

On the other hand, if I am concerned about the salvation of EVERYONE, then God will reveal to me His true character of love.

Only when I understand that God loves everyone in the world, the good and the bad, as much as I love my own children (when they are good or even when they are bad), will I be able to see that God will NOT destroy His enemies, because THEY are all HIS children.  Instead, He will change them into His likeness by destroying - not them - but the sin in their life by allowing them to reap what they have sown.

Trials, tribulations and troubles build character and that’s why we are told to “rejoice in our tribulations.”  God does not punish us.  The consequences of our selfish, ignorant and outright wrong decisions in life bring us all the trouble we need.  It is this trouble that eventually convinces us that we are incapable of running our own life.  It is this trouble that eventually purifies us of the sin in our life, whether the purification occurs in this era or after the Great White Throne Judgment.

Hearing God’s Voice

We can only recognize God’s voice speaking to us through our mind if His nature is in us.  Hearing the voice of God is the expression in us of the nature of the One who is speaking.  “The majority of us cannot hear anything but ourselves and we cannot hear anything God says.  But when we are finally brought to the place, by trials and tribulations, where we can hear the call of God, we will be profoundly changed.”  Ibid., January 16

Who Murdered Christ?

Jesus Christ was murdered by tithe-paying, health-reforming, Sabbath-keeping, Adventists (they were looking forward to Christ’s FIRST Advent), the members of the “Organized Church” of Christ’s time – the ones who had been given the MOST information about the things of God – the ones who referred to themselves as the “Chosen” or “remnant.”

WHY did they Murder Christ?

Because Christ came bringing salvation for ALL – NOT just the “remnant.”  He came as a loving Christ, demonstrating the Character of God.  He did NOT come as a warrior.  The “Organized Church” of Christ’s time wanted a Messiah who would DESTROY their enemies (the Romans) and elevate THEM (the “Chosen”) to the position of power.

The “Organized Church” of Christ’s time had become so degenerate, corrupt and so far from God that they did NOT even recognize Jesus as the Messiah when He came.  They accused Christ of having a Devil – and they KILLED Him.

It is the SAME Now!

The specific “Organized Church” of today that has been given the MOST information about Christ’s SECOND coming has become so corrupt and fallen into such apostasy that they will only accept a “Killer” God as their “redeemer,” a God who is going to destroy His (and their) enemies in a burning hellfire.

It will be the tithe-paying, health-reforming, Sabbath-keeping, Adventists who eventually will lead the way in calling for the imprisonment and even death of those who declare the TRUE Character of Jesus Christ.  And all the other denominations, who also worship a “Killer “ God will join them

We Become Like Those We Admire and Worship

The Bible tells us that we become like the god we worship.  If we worship a god who is a killer – a god who DESTROYS his enemies – then that is what WE become, a killer and a destroyer – in our heart.

But Jesus never harmed anyone, and Jesus is/was FULLY God.  “They shall call His name Emmanuel – meaning GOD with us.”  Matthew 1:23   So God cannot be a Killer because Jesus was not a killer.  He said, “LOVE your enemies; do GOOD to those who hate you.”  That is who Jesus was/is- and Jesus was/is GOD - in human form.

When we have the spirit of Jesus in our heart, we understand that God loves ALL His children the same and He has the power to SAVE them all.

It is true that everyone will reap what he or she has sown, but NOT to eternal damnation.

Psalm 94:15 says that “Judgment returns to righteousness.”  The Judgment will return people to righteousness (right-doing) AFTER they have reaped what they have sown.

Isaiah 26:9 says, “. . .for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness (right-doing).”

There it is.  The purpose of the Great White Throne Judgment is to turn people back to right-doing, but ONLY after they have reaped what they have sown.  The purpose of the Judgment is NOT to annihilate those who do not yet follow Jesus Christ.

A loving parent would NEVER discipline his child by KILLING him.   The discipline is to turn them back to right-doing.  Anything else would be cruel and punitive.

God’s “WILL (the Greek word is thelema and means “will”not “desire”) is that NONE should perish and that ALL should come to repentance.”  2 Peter 3:9   And God “is operating everything according to the counsel of His OWN Will.”  Ephesians 1:11

God is not in a hurry.  He literally has “all the time in the world.”  And He knows exactly how to get us where He wants us, and that is – for ALL to be One with Him.

“The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. . . (then everyone will be alive) that God may ALL in ALL.”  1 Corinthians 15:26,28
