Intelligent People are “less likely to Believe in God”
says a Self-Proclaimed “intelligent” person!

Dumb and Getting Dumber!

“The Wisdom of Man is STUPIDITY with God”
1 Corinthians 3:19

By Lorraine Day, M.D.

Intelligent people are “less likely to believe in God,” says the author of a new study published in the academic journal Intelligence.  According to the London Telegraph, June 12, 2008, Professor Richard Lynn, emeritus professor of psychology at Ulster University in the UK, said many more members of the “intellectual elite” considered themselves atheists than the national average.

A survey of Royal Society fellows found that only 3.3 per cent believed in God – at a time when 68.5 per cent of the general UK population described themselves as believers.

A separate poll in the 1990’s found only 7 per cent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God.

Professor Lynn said most primary school children believed in God, “but as they entered adolescence – and their intelligence increased – many started to have doubts.

He told Times Higher Education magazine:  “Why should fewer academics believe in God than the general population?  I believe it is simply a matter of the IQ.  Academics have higher IQs than the general population.  Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQs tend not to believe in God.”

Religious belief has declined across 137 developed nations in the 20th century at the same time as people “became more intelligent,” according to Professor Lynn.

This Hypothesis Must Be Tested

First:  What constitutes Intelligence?

Some say intelligence is the ability to respond to problems, both expected and unexpected, by determining the most effective behavior to resolve the situation positively.

Live®

Others say it is a term usually referring to a general mental capability to reason, solve problems, think abstractly, learn and understand new material, and profit from past experience. Intelligence can be measured by many different kinds of tasks. Likewise, this ability is expressed in many aspects of a person’s life. Intelligence draws on a variety of mental processes, including memory, learning, perception, decision-making, thinking, and reasoning.

Most people have an intuitive notion of what intelligence is, and many words in the English language distinguish between different levels of intellectual skill: bright, dull, smart, stupid, clever, slow, and so on. Yet no universally accepted definition of intelligence exists, and people continue to debate what, exactly, it is. Fundamental questions remain: Is intelligence one general ability or several independent systems of abilities? Is intelligence a property of the brain, a characteristic of behavior, or a set of knowledge and skills?

The simplest definition proposed is that intelligence is whatever intelligence tests measure. But this definition does not characterize the ability well, and it has several problems. First, it is circular: The tests are assumed to verify the existence of intelligence, which in turn is measurable by the tests. Second, many different intelligence tests exist, and they do not all measure the same thing. In fact, the makers of the first intelligence tests did not begin with a precise idea of what they wanted to measure. Finally, the definition says very little about the specific nature of intelligence.

Whenever scientists are asked to define intelligence in terms of what causes it or what it actually is, almost every scientist comes up with a different definition. For example, in 1921 an academic journal asked 14 prominent psychologists and educators to define intelligence. The journal received 14 different definitions, although many experts emphasized the ability to learn from experience and the ability to adapt to one’s environment. In 1986 researchers repeated the experiment by asking 25 experts for their definition of intelligence. The researchers received many different definitions: general adaptability to new problems in life; ability to engage in abstract thinking; adjustment to the environment; capacity for knowledge and knowledge possessed; general capacity for independence, originality, and productiveness in thinking; capacity to acquire capacity; apprehension of relevant relationships; ability to judge, to understand, and to reason; deduction of relationships; and innate, general cognitive ability.

How Can Intelligence Be Assessed?

Many would say that Intelligence can be assessed by IQ tests.  But would Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms – geniuses in their field of music composition – score well on an IQ that focused on Chemistry, Philosophy, and Geography – among other things?  Would they be considered unintelligent?

Great inventors such as Nikola Tesla – a genius in the field of physics – might score poorly in the area of Music, History, and Languages.  Would he be considered unintelligent?

In addition, IQ tests are designed by those who have self-designated themselves to be part of the intelligencia.  Is a person intelligent because he has proclaimed himself to be intelligent?

Most would agree that the accumulation of vast sums of money does not necessarily prove a high IQ.  Championship boxers may get rich, but they also get their brains damaged.  That’s not smart!

Professional athletes are paid high salaries, but they have relatively short careers, often sustain injuries that result in permanent arthritis, pain and disability, and may end up at mid-life selling used cars.  That’s not smart!

Most people would agree that if one does not have his health, he has nothing.  It has been said that the average person spends the first part of his life destroying his health while working hard trying to make money.  And he spends the last part of his life, spending that hard-earned money trying to regain his health!

So what are the characteristics of an intelligent person?

Would it be fair to surmise that an intelligent person should be able to

1.Know how to be well both physically and mentally.

A person cannot be considered very intelligent, if he doesn’t know how to refrain from destroying his physical health, or if he loses his mind.  That is NOT smart!

    2. Have wisdom.

Wisdom is defined as the ability to use knowledge – the facts one collects in the process of education and learning – to reach the correct conclusions.

Many persons can memorize facts, but unless they can put those facts together to reach the correct conclusion, they cannot be considered very intelligent.  They are NOT smart!

      3. Have Self-Control.

If a person has no control over himself, if he is subject to fits of anger, jealousy, or rage, if he is subject to addictions – whether it be drug addiction, alcohol addiction, sexual addiction, pornography addiction, addiction to fame, power or money, he cannot be considered intelligent, because he will be easily controlled by other people or other things.  That is NOT smart!

         4. Have peace in his own heart.

If a person is unable to handle the stresses of life calmly, if he is irritable, agitated, controlling of his environment and those around him, irascible, cantankerous, full of worry, fearful, he cannot be considered intelligent, at least not intelligent enough to be peaceful in the midst of chaos.  He is NOT smart!

          5. Be able to Discern and Believe Truth!

If what one believes is NOT truth, then he cannot be “Intelligent.”  If one believes he has the truth, but does NOT, he cannot be considered “Intelligent.”

          “Man’s” Way:

Let’s look at those who may be considered “Intelligent” by the standards of the world.

          1. Do they know how to be well physically?

Physicians and Researchers – the “greatest” minds in Orthodox Medicine freely admit that they do not know what causes most diseases, including ALL types of Cancer (including leukemia), Parkinson’s, Lou Gehrig’s Disease and other neurological diseases, supposed “autoimmune diseases” such as Lupus Erythematosus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sjogren’s syndrome, Polymyalgia Rheumatica; other diseases, including Multiple sclerosis, allergies, asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalagia, flu, migraine headaches, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, and many more.

No physician will ever guarantee that his “treatment” of these diseases will result in a permanent cure.  In fact, virtually all of these diseases are “treated” with drugs.  And Drugs NEVER cure disease.  They only “treat” the symptoms, never the root cause.  And in most instances, the patient will be told that he or she will have to continue to take the drug for the rest of his or her life – PROOF that the drugs DO NOT and CANNOT cure the disease.

The Medical Establishment prides itself in having the “best minds,” the most brilliant research scientists, and the brightest physicians known to man, working at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) which began as a one room laboratory in 1887.  By 1974, it had a budget of $8 million, increasing to $1 billion by 1986.  Now the budget for the NIH is $28 billion annually.  The NIH is responsible for probably 90% of ALL the funding given out to medical schools for their research activities.  Yet in the last 120 years, the efforts of these “brilliant” minds and billions of dollars, have NOT resulted in even ONE cure for ANY disease.

            The NIH includes:

            National Cancer Institute,
            National Eye Institute,
National heart, Lung, and Blood Institute,
            National Institute on Aging,
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism,
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases,
National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases,
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences,
            National Institute of Mental health,
National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke,
            and many more.

As stated above, all these institutes and their “Intelligent” scientific researchers, plus $28 billion dollars per year, have not produced ONE cure for ANY disease.  What they have done is take these huge sums of money from the taxpayers’ pockets to fund research to develop more DRUGS – that will NEVER cure any disease, but will make huge profits for the Pharmaceutical companies.

So the taxpayer pays TWICE!  First, when the funds are used for the development of DRUGS that will never cure anything but will only harm the patient’s body, and Second, when the taxpayer must pay again, to buy the medicine from the pharmaceutical companies (for which the taxpayer originally paid the development costs) prescribed by his physician – who often gets a handsome financial kick-back from the DRUG companies.

            GOD’S Way:

God has given all humanity a way to prevent AND reverse disease, a way that does no harm to the body, that is available to the rich and poor, educated and uneducated, to every continent on the earth, and a way that is virtually free, and a way that has been available for 6,000 years.

Every one of the people listed below GAVE HIMSELF (or herself) their disease, one day at a time, by the way they ate, lived, and handled stress.  Disease is NOT “indiscriminate.”  It only affects those who are living, eating, and handling stress their OWN way, rather than doing it GOD’S Way. (See www.drday.com)

They don’t believe in God’s way.  They want to run their own life.  So they have given themselves a horrible, often painful, life-threatening disease – because they DON’T believe in God?

And they THINK they are “Intelligent.”

Wouldn’t it demonstrate Intelligence to know how to prevent and reverse ALL diseases?

NONE of the following supposedly “intelligent” people know anything about preventing and reversing disease.  They have ALL given themselves their disease.  They have all accepted the DRUG or mutilating Surgical methods of Orthodox Medicine – the ways of “man” (doctors) and NOT the ways of God.  Many are already dead, and NONE of those still living will Reverse his or her disease.  They may have a temporary relief from their symptoms by the use of harmful drugs, burning radiation, or mutilating surgery, but these will NOT reverse their disease.

That’s NOT Smart!  That is NOT “Intelligent”!

Stephen Hawking - astrophysicist:  Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).  Many scientists consider him to be the smartest man alive.  But because of his diseases, that he gave to himself, he cannot feed himself, dress himself, or talk.  He is confined to a wheel chair and can do nothing for himself – when he could be well by following God’s Natural Health Plan.  Is THAT “Intelligent”?

Here is just a sample listing of famous depressed people (alive and deceased – and many more pages could be filled with other well-known depressed people).  This brief list is categorized by actors, musicians, athletes, writers, artists, political/public figures and other celebrities. Many of these famous individuals were able to cope successfully with their depression with appropriate support and “treatment” (meaning DRUGS!!).

But DRUGS NEVER cure mental illness.  They only cover up the symptoms so the patient FEELS better.  They NEVER address the root cause of the problem.

            Do they have Wisdom?

            What is Wisdom?

Wisdom is the ability to use facts – learned through the five senses (sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste) - and put them together to reach the correct conclusion.  The Bible tells us that ALL Wisdom comes from God.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all mankind liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.  James 1:5

“The wisdom of man (the world) is foolishness (literal translation = stupidity) with God.” 1 Corinthians 3:19

“And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.” 1 Kings 10:24

“For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries will not be able to resist.”  Luke 21:15

“O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out.”  Romans 11:33

“For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent

“Where is the wise?  Where is the scribe?  Where is the debater of this world?  Hath not God made foolish the “wisdom” of this world?

“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by (their own) wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the (supposed) foolishness of the message preached, to save them that believe.  1 Corinthians 1:19-21

“The “foolishness” of God is wiser than men; and the “weakness of God is stronger than men.”  1 Cor. 1:25

“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put the shame the things which (the world thinks) are mighty.”  1 Cor 1:27

“But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God became for us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.”  1 Cor 1:30

“Your faith should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”  1 Cor 2:5

“The wisdom of this world, is stupidity with God.  For it is written, He takes the “wise” in their own craftiness.  And again, the Lord knows the thoughts of the “wise,” that they are futile.  Therefore, let no man glory in men.. .”  1 Cor 3:19-21

            Alcoholism

Ulysses S. Grant. 18th president of the United States (1869-1877). His drinking seems to have been brought on by boredom. In other words, when he wasn't busy, he drank. It did interfere with his work enough that he was relieved of his military duties in 1854. The Civil War came along and his drinking lessened, but did not stop. He drank, but continued to function, throughout the Civil War, emerging a hero. Voted to the presidency in 1868, he died shortly after his second term of throat cancer.

Edgar Allen Poe. Interestingly enough, Poe's father was an alcoholic, showing yet again the strength of a genetic link for the disease. Poe himself was raised by friends of his birth family. He made several attempts at the military, but his drinking eventually got him drummed out. He published much of his now-famous literature in between bouts of drinking. In 1849, at age 40, he was found lying unconscious on a Baltimore street and taken to the hospital, where he died.

John Daly. PGA golfer and admitted alcoholic, John began drinking at an early age. Beer at age eight, then wine, then whiskey at age 14. His history has been one of huge ups and downs. He won big tournaments, then got arrested for alcohol-related crimes. He has been suspended from the PGA more than once, and even involved in scuffles with fans. His marriages have all dissolved into divorce, and his self-absorption with both gambling and alcohol seem fated to bring him more difficulties in life.

Stephen King. Yet another famous writer, this time born in 1947. As early as 1975 (age 28) he had problems with alcohol. He admits he was drunk when he delivered his mother's eulogy. King fought multiple addictions, including alcohol, prescription drugs, and illegal drugs. After a family intervention he got sober in the late 80's and has remained sober since.

Joseph Stalin. The son of an alcoholic father, his birth name was Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili. He adopted the name Joseph Stalin ("Man of Steel") in the early 1900's as he moved toward Marxism. He was jealous and insecure, unfortunately rising to a position of such power that he could either exile or execute those who he felt threatened him. Stalin died suddenly in 1953, and no definitive cause of death has ever been released to the West.

Bonnie Prince Charlie. Charles Edward Stuart, The Young Pretender, The King Over the Water. Known by many names, he was the leader of the Jacobites in one of the bloodiest battles in Scottish history—Culloden, where the Prince's Jacobite forces were annihilated by Cumberland's army. It was after Culloden that Charles' drinking took him on a downward spiral. His wife took their daughter Charlotte and left him in the mid-1700s. He died in exile in Rome in 1788.

A list of famous alcoholic artists, athletes, and politicians.

Upton Sinclair, in his book The Cup of Fury, mentioned other well-known persons he regarded as alcoholics or problem drinkers. In each case, according to Sinclair, the individual's drinking was sufficiently serious to affect his work, talent, or career adversely.

            Do they have Peace?

All one has to do is look at the world today and it will be obvious that none of the world leaders are able to produce “peace” in the world.  In fact, they do not want peace for the world.  They want to create as much chaos as possible among the people, so they can rule the world.

But do they have peace in their own life?

Go back and look at the number of well-known people who have either been treated for severe depression or who have been in rehab for drug addiction.  Clearly, they do NOT have peace in their own life.

Are they able to Discern and Believe Truth?

If the leaders of the world, and those who have obtained fame and/or money, were able to discern and believe Truth, their own life and the state of the world would be far different.

All one must do is evaluate the plunging economy of the world, the destruction of the environment, the chaos and war in the world, the dumbing-down of the population, the increase in violent crime, the increase in debauchery and immorality, the increase in addiction of all kinds – drug addiction, alcohol addiction, sex addiction, addiction to pornography, addiction to gambling, the increase in fear, anxiety and depression and other forms of mental illness, to see that the so-called, self-designated, “Intelligent” people who deny God, are NOT so “Intelligent” after all!

So WHO are the “Intelligent” People?

Let’s refresh our criteria for designating someone as “Intelligent.”

            1.  An Intelligent person must know how to be well both physically and mentally.

God promises to “heal ALL our diseases” (Psalm 103:3) but ONLY if we follow HIS ways and NOT the ways of “man” (the ways of doctors and scientific researchers).  God says,

“IF you follow My laws (that includes His Ten Natural Health Laws), My Commandments (ALL Ten of them, including the Fourth – the Seventh-day Sabbath – Saturday – Sabbath), and My decrees (including learning to Love your enemies, learning to FORGIVE everyone who has ever wronged you, learning to be Unselfish, learning to give ALL your stress to the Lord and to trust Him completely with everything in your life, etc., plus ALL the other Ten Steps) I will keep you FREE from EVERY Disease.”  Deut 7:11-15

“I will give you back your health again.”  Jeremiah 30:17

“I will take away sickness from among you.”  Exodus 23:25,26

“Anything is possible if you have faith.”  Mark 9:23

“ For God has NOT given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 2:5

If I have iniquity (sin) in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.”  Psalm 66:18

The only One who can fulfill a promise is the One who made it – and that is God.  God has given us a PROMISE – to heal ALL our diseases.  He has also given us the PROCESS by which He fulfills His promise.  And that is to follow HIS way – HIS Natural Ten Step Plan – and NOT “man’s way (the doctors’ way).

Whether it is Physical Health or Mental Health, the answers are found ONLY in God.

So in order to be “Intelligent” – one MUST believe in God!

            2.    One must have Wisdom

All Wisdom comes from God.  So it is impossible to have wisdom WITHOUT believing in God.

“The wisdom of this world is foolishness (literal translation: stupidity) with God.” 1 Cor 3:19

“ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to deny nor resist.”  Luke 21:15

“But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” 1 Cor 1:30

“For to one is given by God’s Spirit the word of wisdom. . .” 1 Cor 12:8

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom in the knowledge and revelation in the knowledge of Him.”  Ephesians 1:17

“If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not (He will not criticize us), and it shall be given him.”  James 1:5

“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.  James 3:17

So in order to be “Intelligent” – one MUST believe in God!

            3.    An Intelligent person must have Self-Control

Self Control is one of the fruits of the spirit of God.  Self Control only comes from God.

“But the fruits of the Spirit (of God) are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self control. . .”  Galatians 5:22,23

“But the works of the flesh (of humanity) are evident, which are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, contentions, jealousies, wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such. . . these will not inherit the kingdom of God.”  Galatians 5:19-21

“. . . that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.  And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

“For if these things be in you and abound, you shall neither be useless nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  And he that lacks these things is blind, and short-sighted. . .”  2 Peter 1:3-9

So in order to be “Intelligent” – one MUST believe in God!

            4.    An Intelligent person must have peace in his own heart.

Peace is one of the fruits of the Spirit of God, therefore it can only come from God.  It is impossible to have peace in one’s heart if he has fear.  God promises to take away our fear.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  John 14:27

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Romans 5:1

“Now the God of hope (expectation) fill you with peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope (expectation) through the power of God’s spirit of holiness.”  Romans 15:13

“God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. . . “ 1 Cor 14:33

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self control. . .”  Galatians 5:22,23

“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  John 14:27

“Fear not for I am with you.  Be not dismayed for I am your God.  Isa 41:10

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7

So in order to be “Intelligent” – one MUST believe in God.

            5.    An Intelligent person must be able to discern and believe Truth.

Jesus IS the truth, so in order to be able to discern and believe Truth, one must know Jesus.  If one “believes” something that is NOT true, then he has no information at all.  He cannot be considered “Intelligent.”

“I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life.”  John 14:6

“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.  John 1:14

“. . . grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”  John 1:17

So in order to be “Intelligent” – one MUST believe in God!

What Does GOD say about the so-called “wisdom” of man – the “wisdom” of the world?

“For the message of the cross is to them who are lost, foolishness (stupidity); but unto us that are saved, it is the power of God.  For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the “wise”, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

“Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this world?  Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?  1 Cor 1:18-20

“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”  1 Cor 1:25

“But God has chosen the foolish (simple) things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things that are mighty; and the insignificant things of the world, and things that are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are.”  1 Cor 1:27,28

            Conclusion:

It is impossible to be “Intelligent” unless one has wisdom, truth, self-control, peace, and the ability to know how to be well both mentally and physically.  But wisdom, truth, self-control, peace, and the ability to know how to be well, both physically and mentally – ALL come from God, and NOT from the world.

Kings, queens, rulers of the greatest nations of the world, both now and in the past, the rich, the famous, the “brilliant” – all those who do not believe in God - have ALL shown themselves to be foolish – and NOT “Intelligent.”

It is clear that the ONLY way to be “Intelligent” – is to be a Believer in God!

Those who do not believe in God are NOT “Intelligent.”  God says they are Stupid!

King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, summed it up when he said,

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter; Fear God and keep His Commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13s
